SPRING’S Persistent Malleability

The present is malleable. Influence the odds. Free will is your pen, write your life.

Welcome to the spring ’23 issue!

Much can be said about the renewing power of springtime and its inviting sense of exploration. If winter is a palette cleanser, this season is the springboard for reinvention. A masterclass in tapping the art of perpetual reinvention, creative vanguard Pharrell Williams, whom we profile in this issue, channels this energy, explaining that, “The present is malleable. Influence the odds. Free will is your pen, write your life.”

You start at the bottom and work your way up. To know who you truly are, you need experience and to feel grounded in your passions and beliefs.

Embodying this M.O. with a sharp sense of curiosity, model wunderkind-turned-Hollywood actress Taylor Hill shares her studied approach to the launch of her exciting next (personal and professional) chapter. On the heels of her big-screen debut opposite Brad Pitt in Baz Luhrmann’s movie, Babylon, the former Victoria’s Secret Angel reveals to LVR that there are more projects on the way as she grounds herself in the knowledge that one “must dedicate [oneself] to learning a new craft. [I] want to do that and do it well. You start at the bottom and work your way up. To know who you truly are, you need experience and to feel grounded in your passions and beliefs.”

This season is pregnant with sartorial possibility.

This ethos of persistent malleability, an idea crystallized as the common thread among our talent, is energy that similarly informs much of the sartorial elements of this issue. In a season ripe with new collections that channel everything from Y2K-inflected styles (are you ready for the return of low-rise?) to couture-like sculptural wares, and minimalist ensembles heralding a return to more functional daywear. If one thing is apparent, this season is pregnant with sartorial possibility. For the first time in many seasons, spring ’23 begs us not to limit ourselves to one archetype. The collections mark a palpable return to the idea that the power of fashion lies in experimenting with different facets of oneself and congeals around the celebration of the cult of the individual. It’s a season that leans into this ethos and gives us much to mine by way of powerful new self expression, all of which is broken down for you by our editors in our comprehensive—and shoppable!—Spring ‘23 Trend Report.

With that, we hope you find a fresh sense of renewal across these pages. If the talent we profile within is any indication, the possibilities for self-discovery are boundless.

Enjoy the issue!
Xx
