Alexander Roth on style for LuisaViaRoma - 1

Content creator, director, creative strategist and producer, what doesn’t Alexander Roth do? The man of all trades keeps us guessing with his instagram feed where he shows off his outfits, his work in collaborating with brands and gives us a sneak peek into his personal life.  Womenswear, menswear, and vice versa. Blurring the lines of expectations and the fashion norms we’re used to, Roth gets personal with LVR to talk about his style, gender-fluid fashion and top 5 songs.

The Interview

When did you begin to follow fashion and what inspires your style?
I was always subconsciously into fashion and art but I didn’t realize it until my early 20’s. I interned at Esquire Magazine summer of 2016 when I was turning 21. That was definitely the turning point for me in terms of gaining knowledge and a better understanding of the industry and what peaked my interest. Today, most of my inspiration on style comes from my mood and archived editorials. I love Steven Tyler, Yves Saint Laurent and Freddie Mercury for references.

How would you describe the revolution of gender-fluid fashion?
We saw it coming and it’s only going to evolve from here. From genderless fashion to social media personas expressing their “individuality”, whichever way you want to put it, this is nothing short of a phenomenon in todays culture. Brands and fashion houses are growing with their customers needs all while targeting a new generation not built on societal norms.

What are your favorite designers on LVR?
Ann Demeulemeester, Bottega Veneta, Andersson Bell, Martine Rose and Saint Lauren for men. Dion Lee, Blue Marine, Nensi Dojaka, Saint Laurent and Lemaire for women.

Top 5 songs you are listening to right now?
Recently I’ve been listening to a lot of runway music. Specifically from past YSL, Dior and Rick Owens shows. A lot of Sonder and Giveon too. My favorite song right now is Les Filles Désir by Vendredi sur Mer.

Going back and forth between NY and LA, do you feel your style change between these two cities? Are there different looks you’d approach in each city and not the other?
No I’d say my style stays pretty consistent. Although, when I go somewhere different I do feel more prone to trying new silhouettes with the way I dress – something about a new location gives way for fresh ideas.

Which was your favorite outfit of 2021 so far?
I wore this runway look from Clare Waight Keller’s last men’s collection for GIVENCHY that I fell in love with. Perfect leather blouson with straight leg slacks and heeled boots.

Where do you want to go most when we can travel freely again?
First stop is Paris, then either Lake Como or Monaco.

Who would you love to collaborate with?
Helmut Newton and Richard Avedon if they were alive. I love collaborating with friends that inspire me as well – so anytime I can work with them is a dream.
