Dariya’s Moscow City Guide - Moscow-header

Fashion industry insider and local Dariya Sirotina shares her guide to the Russian fashion capital.

Moscow is… the city you must visit in 2017. Please plan your trip for the Summer season though. The daylight is long and the center of the city is full of cafés with summer terraces.

If you are in Moscow you absolutely need to visit… a classical music concert at the Moscow State Conservatory. There’s excellent acoustics and – you won’t believe – great people watching.

How is the style different from, say Paris, Milan, New York?
In Moscow, ladies tend to dress much more meticulously. When it comes to an outfit they often coordinate the pieces.

The stunningly dressed lady you see on the street has probably spent a lot of time preparing her outfit, even if it might seem effortless. In Moscow, almost anything that is nonchalant is well planned.

Describe your everyday look?
Jeans, shirts, cashmere sweaters, men’s-inspired shoes or sneakers, straight-cut coats and leather jackets, voluminous scarves. I travel a lot, so my wardrobe is made up of pieces that pair really well together and allow me to pack my suitcase fast.

What is the key to a killer outfit?
The most important thing is to feel good. The brand, the height of the heel, the length of the dress… it doesn’t matter. How can you build your confidence? New clothes and a glass of sparkling wine before going out – obviously to a party, not to work!

What pieces will everyone be wearing during this season?
A midi dress with a floral print, wide pants with contrasting side band, shirts and dresses with ruffles. Also, not to be forgotten – mules! I will probably continue wearing jeans and shirts though…

What are your favorite emerging designers at LVR.COM?
I like the Hebe Studio suits (remember, I mentioned the pants with the side bands), structured dresses by Jacquemus (yes, with ruffles), crazy prints by Stella Jean, Mansur Gavriel’s minimalist bags and the shoes from Laurence Dacade.

Your favorite city retreat?
You’d better go outside! For example, to the boutique-hotel «Родники» (Rodniki – The Springs), where you can feed the foxes right from your terrace. On the way back to Moscow, visit the town of Sergiyev Posad to admire the ancient churches. Nothing is more relaxing than an opportunity to escape from the city.

I’m currently listening to…
Love me do, Beatles
Have you ever seen the rain, Rod Stewart
Fly Me to the Moon, Frank Sinatra
Come as you are, Nirvana
Libiamo ne’lieti calici, La Traviata, G.Verdi, Anna Netrebko, Rolando Villazon

Does it seem a strange choice to you? Some of the tracks are my jogging playlist, some of them are for setting the mood, creating a special atmosphere in the evening.

“You can’t go wrong if you try any place with the name Coffeemania.
If you prefer something more hipster, don’t miss Double B.”

Coffee with a conscious. Double B is both a cozy hangout and a supplier of green and roasted beans. The chain was founded on one very simple idea – great coffee and tea – and serves just that… with a twist. Double B customizes their brews, experimenting with different blends and innovative roasting techniques to create their own distinct tastes.
