NEW Horizons

The horizon leans forward, offering you a space to place new steps of change.

Welcome to the December Issue!

Maya Angelou once promised that, “the horizon leans forward, offering you a space to place new steps of change.”

As our team met to plan this issue, which ushers us from the holiday season into a fresh new year, this ethos inspired the stories we shared and the talent we featured throughout. It’s true that fashion is one of the greatest narrators of all time, a reflection of culture and personality that leverages emotion to transcribe its tale. At LVR, it is important to us that each page highlights the fashion, stories and ideas that resonate with each of you, our readers. And undoubtedly, the enterprise of self-realization is one in which, I imagine, most people find resonance.

Fashion is one of the greatest narrators of all time, a reflection of culture and personality that leverages emotion to transcribe its tale.

Which is precisely the space within which we find Vanessa Hudgens, our multitudinously talented cover star. Vanessa embodies a profound sense of being in pursuit of her truth, stepping boldly onto a new horizon with the launch of a bevy of entrepreneurial pursuits and cinematic passion projects. In Losing Gabriella, writer Roxanne Robinson connects with the superstar at a poignant point of inflection in both her personal and professional lives as she elevates from Disney-branded childhood star to a woman on the brink of a riveting new chapter. We present Vanessa, styled by visionary Jason Bolden, in a sharply sophisticated edit of the season’s most elevated collections (cases in point: Saint Laurent suiting and Rive Gauche-inspired coats, Tom Ford column dresses and Gucci coating). The fashion is a thoughtfully considered transcription of the narrative arc of a woman coming into her own power.

It’s a power play NYC-based design wunderkind Cate Holstein, founder of Khaite, has mastered. As the newly awarded CFDA Womenswear Designer of the Year, Holstein has built a business anchored in an uncompromising commitment to fashion that charges the women who wear it with a “cool-girl” sense of self. Even if you don’t know the name, you know the (Khaite) look. In her unorthodox and media-shy rise to becoming one of the industry’s most sought-after brands, in Cate on Khaite, the designer gives us a hyper-candid look at the some of the game behind the glory, from imposter syndrome and double standards to the virtues of timing and luck. Hers is an inspiring chart of the challenges in building a brand and taking flight against the headwinds.

Not to be understated, the challenge (or, as we like to think of it, the joyful challenge) of building one’s personal style identity this holiday season can be a daunting task. So, we’ve taken the legwork out of it. We tap some of the world’s most celebrated tastemakers for a custom LVR-curated guide of outfit ideas to help you realize your most confident you this season. Plus, indulge in a little something extra for yourself or those important people in your life with our Luxury Gift Guide of exclusive pieces and experiences.

After all, it is the holiday season, and self realization—in all its forms—is the most profound gift of them all.

Enjoy the issue!
