Much more than your average Disney Darling

Sofia Carson’s rise to fame is a true modern day fairytale. Originally of Colombian descendant, the young talent was born and raised in Florida before making the move to L.A. Her acting career launched with a guest appearance on the Disney Channel hit series Austin and Ally, before landing a recurring guest star on MTV’s Faking It. In 2014, she returned to her Disney roots landing the coveted role of Evie, in Descendants, the made-for-TV film that sees the offspring of some of the most notorious and beloved storybook characters struggling in their own way to step out of their parent’s shadow and write their own story.

In a true case of life imitating art, Sofia (just like Evie) isn’t one to be defined by her past and is directing her newly found on screen fame in a different direction, breaking into the music industry with two singles, Love is the Name (2016) and Back to Beautiful (2017), viewed more than 84 million times on Youtube.

Sofia Carson has managed to play the fame game scandal free and has kept the focus firmly on her career, both as an actress and artist. No easy feat considering the constant media scrutiny and a life in the spotlight that comes with the job. Like many of Young Hollywood’s elite, her legion of loyal fans watch her every move and outfit.

A recent stint at Paris Fashion Week – her first time attending – saw the industry’s inner circle start to take notice as well. Carson held her own in the French capital, attending presentations at John Galliano, Akris and Azzedine Alaïa. Her seriously enviable wardrobe is polished, ladylike and timeless with a youthful appeal and is a far cry from what you expect of an actress fresh out of L.A.

I love dressing in ways that are very feminine but also have a bit of an edge

We joined the rising star in the City of Lights for a spot of sightseeing and a somewhat impromptu photoshoot. Wearing Lanvin, David Koma and Jacquemus, Sofia talked extensively about her love for fashion and opened up about the impact growing up bi-culturally had on her life. She recalls, “I was open to, or at least show different kinds of music from all over the world and it’s definitely a big part of who I am.”
