At first glance, backstage at the inaugural CR Runway show (done in partnership with LuisaViaRoma) looked like utter mayhem. There was French makeup artist Tom Pecheux with his army of assistants, British hair stylist Sam McKnight with his team, and prolific nail artist Mei Kawajiri with hers—all completely absorbed with the task at hand: To prep and prime the 80-plus models who were, in a few hours, to walk out to an audience of 5,000. (Gigi Hadid was overheard saying that the event felt like the Olympics of fashion.) But for the supermodels like Natasha Poly, Lara Stone, Doutzen Kroes, Mariacarla Boscano, Karen Elson, Karolina Kurkova, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Guinevere Van Seenus, the whole affair felt like one giant reunion—the chance to catch up, swap stories about their kids, and cheers with glasses of wine.
