Firstly and most importantly, why jewelry and not clothing?

I’ve always had an affinity towards jewelry ever since I was a child. Similar to many kids growing up, I used to love going through my mother’s jewelry and wear them around the house. I love how a piece of jewelry can dress up any outfit and bring confidence to one’s daily life.

We see that you actually did a couple of collaborations with eyewear brand Spektre and also clothing brand Ceizer, how did those two collabs come about and what was it like fusing boths worlds with your designs?

I always approach collaborations with a focus on quality and how it applies to my daily life.  I never leave the house without sunglasses (and jewelry of course) and Spektre is a brand that I’ve admired for a while and they have the most amazing quality.  With Ceizer, I grew fond of the brand through their collaboration with Colette and how both our brands utilize quotes and everyday slogans. We then created a collection that included products for everyday use, which was an element we both felt will resonate with our audiences.

Who would you love to possibly collaborate with in the future and why?

I’m really open to all sort of ideas whether it’d be an apparel brand or an influencer or even another jewelry brand.  I just love creating something that has an element of surprise and delight.

You were already deeply involved within the fashion industry prior to the debut of your eponymous label YUN YUN SUN, do you feel like that played a major role in marketing your brand more? If so, how?

While that did help, I don’t think my personal recognition played a big role in the brand. I started out wanting to make sure that the product spoke for itself and that my customers are purchasing the product on their own without my personal influence.

Love the sparkles and fun sayings you incorporated into each design, very disco. We can see Diana Ross loving this type of thing even 30 years ago! Who would you love to see wearing your jewelry and why? Are there any characteristics you believe your jewelry shares with anyone within pop culture?

My pieces are meant to bring joy and excitement to anyone who wears them since many of the pieces are considered statements.  For me a confident person, whether that’s a man or a woman, is my ideal customer. I love seeing my creations on everyday people just as much as I do when they are worn by celebrities.

You create fashion jewelry as well as fine jewelry. We believe this plays a fundamental role in designing jewelry for everyone. Does inclusivity play a large role in when you create a collection?

Yes, which is the exact reason I created both lines, to be able to offer a wide range of products to my customers. Those who appreciate statement pieces along with those who would prefer smaller more everyday pieces.

YUN YUN SUN is based out of Taipei, Taiwan, which is the capital of the region. From what we know, a lot of fashion generated from this area is very ‘Western inspired’. Do you agree? How do you feel your jewelry designs reflect those of Western culture?

The main source of inspiration for me and the brand is through my travels.  I pick up and dream up ideas from all over the world and that’s always been a focus, I want to make sure I touch upon a global perspective when it comes to designing.

We’re in love with the capsule collection you have designed for LuisaViaRoma. What inspired you when designing these pieces?

Thank you so much! I’m quite obsessed with them as well.  It really stemmed off of this idea of bringing joy and happiness to the world, which we know we really need right now.  To me, the crystals /rhinestones represent joy in a way and I wanted to create something that sparkled in order to bring a bit of positivity.

If you could go back and tell yourself one thing before beginning your career as a jewelry designer, what would it be?

I would say patience is a true virtue, especially with what is going on in the world right now. I feel that time heals all things.

How do you want women or men to feel when wearing your jewelry.

I want them to feel empowered and confident.

Tell us more about you. Where did you grow up and how do you feel your childhood plays a role in who you are today? Who is the creative Aimee behind YUN YUN SUN?

Grew up in Taiwan, then moved to La at 13.

As you already know, I love to travel.  It’s the one thing that really keeps me inspired and going as a creative.  Growing up between Asia and America, it really helped me to broaden my views on the world and learned at a young age to appreciate all the different cultures that make up our world.

Describe your personality in 3 words.

Honest, fun and retro.

How have you dealt with the recent pandemic? Has the experience changed you at all and what do you wish to see more of in the future after all of this?

Although Taiwan has it under control for the most part, it has definitely impacted us a bit as we were just getting started on our expansion into the US and now everything is on hold for the moment.  Again I think we just need to be patient and use this time to strategize on how we can evolve.

What’s the first place you’d love to travel after international travel is permitted once again?

I would love to go to Australia ASAP.  It’s our second home at this point.

What’s currently on your playlist at the moment?

I have a lot of 80’s pop and 90’s R&B right now. Music also plays a big part in my design process.  It helps me be in the mood and imagine myself in that time period in which I am designing for.

Who are your muses?

The world – I draw inspiration from people and places from all over the world and therefore it’s hard to pinpoint to a specific.

What’s the most unforgettable thing you’ve ever done?

I would have to say having my kids.  They’ve definitely changed my life in the best possible way.

Outside of this capsule collection, what more should we be expecting from YUN YUN SUN?

We have been creating non-stop so there will be a lot more exciting designs on the way.
