LVRSustainable celebrates World Children’s Day - 1

Each year on November 20th, the world unites to celebrate World Children’s Day.

We honor and celebrate rights for all children. The future is in their hands:

This Day is about nurturing younger and healthy generations. By fostering children’s values all over the world, you’re doing your job by working towards a brighter future.

This time, we ask 4 sustainable kidswear designers: Infantium Victoria, Molo, Mini Rodin, and Save the Duck why sustainable fashion is especially important for kids and parents.

Look to the LVRSustainable kids section to discover a selection of other brands that are also making a conscious fashion: Stella McCartney Kids, Bobo Choses and Veja.

Why is sustainable fashion especially important when creating clothing for children?
Children are the future. That is why we, as parents, want to secure a safe planet for them. We, as a sustainable clothing brand, care deeply about the impact we are making today. Eco-conscious businesses take into consideration resources, environment, and people, creating a better future for all.

Sustainable materials are safer for children’s health since the production chain is free from hazardous chemicals and potential allergens. Organically grown fabrics are soft, comfortable, and are very beautiful. In the meantime, the variety of textiles is vast – from smooth, silky poplin to lush velvets, warm knitwear to eco-friendly water repellent cotton.

Another aspect that is choosing sustainable fashion is an excellent education for children- we teach to appreciate quality. We teach to cherish products made by the hands of other people. Taking care of the garments is essential because each garment results from the work of many people and nature combined. We teach children to respect others, and we believe it’s a precious lesson for generations to come.

And last but not least, sustainable children’s fashion is made under ethical conditions. People are paid fairly for their work; there is no evidence of any exploitation, abuse along the production chain. Clothes are made by happy people, proud of what they are doing, and taking care of their families. In our minds, this is a very positive energy to be put in a product.

Sustainable children fashion matters because these are high-quality garments made from safe and beautiful materials by happy people, with regards to the environment and future of all children.

What does your brand do to promote sustainable fashion?
We at Infantium Victoria believe in transparency and building trust with our clients and our suppliers. From day one, we shared every step of our production chain, including the list of the materials, along with the supplier names. We also gave a production time per each garment for a client to see how much work is put in every single garment. So customers appreciate our level of transparency and know exactly what they are paying for.

We take our followers behind the scenes of our processes through social media, so the magic of creating fashion unveils before them. We share every step of our collection journey- from the inspirations to sourcing and research trips, photoshoots, and a glimpse into the manufacturing. Fashion is true magic, and we try to share this excitement as much as we can.

Every collection is a new story for us, just like for the high-end adults wear. There is no repetition in our models, so it’s a new start every season. Our stories are deeply connected to environmental issues. For instance, our summer 20 collection was all about protecting insects, and this fall season is devoted to keystone animal species that are endangered. We communicate ecological concerns in a subtle child-friendly way that makes kids not afraid of them but curious. Maybe we will inspire future problem solvers. Who knows?

What are the 3 most important values for your brand?
Aesthetics: The clothing should look and feel good. It’s about the perfect fit and making a child look pretty. It’s about the child being able to play and have fun in our clothes, to enjoy themselves, and to feel confident. That’s what good children’s garments do.

Ethics: Do no harm or even do better than no harm. Our entire line is cruelty-free vegan because we believe no living being should suffer for our garments. That’s why our entire line of textiles is plant-based organic because we do not want to harm the environment. And we seek socially responsible manufacturers to make sure no human being is mistreated or abused, contributing to our precious garments.

Education: We seek to get better at what we do. We improve our practices with every collection, like moving towards plastic-free operations, improving packaging, offsetting carbon emission with deliveries. We at Infantium Victoria appreciate new textiles, innovations that contribute to a better environment. We inspire manufacturers and suppliers to offer more eco-friendly products and services because we keep on asking for them.

By investing in fair paying manufacturers, we make sure that workers at the factory floor will secure education for their children. This investment in workers will benefit communities in the long run. Creating demand for organic textiles will inspire more farmers to educate themselves on environmentally safe methods of agriculture. And also will enable them to make more money to support their living.

Sharing what we know with fellow brands secures that more and more brands will follow the sustainable path. Hence our collective impact will be more considerable and will benefit all children in the world!

Why is sustainable fashion especially important when creating clothing for children?
That’s a great question. We firmly believe that sustainable fashion is important for the children because they are the future and our most precious treasures and for this reason we owe them to take good care of the planet and reduce the damage that this industry can also cause if we just continue like nothing has changed. We need to hand over the earth to them in the best possible condition.

What does your brand do to promote sustainable fashion?
At the core of what we do is to create products in such a high quality that it can last for a longer period of time and be passed on to siblings or friends. We adhere to the ‘BUY LESS, BUY BETTER’ way of doing things.

What are the 3 most important values for your brand?
The 3 most important values of our brands are sustainability, quality in our products and last but not least to create children’s clothing that is designed on children’s own terms so they can express their creativity and personality through their clothes. Our passion is to provide “favourites” for every child’s closet.

Why is sustainable fashion especially important when creating clothing for children?
In our opinion we should use sustainable materials on all clothing, but it is much easier to find better alternatives for kids.

Since we make clothes for kids we put a lot of work into controlling chemicals in our productions. The garments that are made from recycled polyester and plastic waste – like many of our jackets and swimwear – are GRS certified. GRS is the strictest certification for recycled materials on the market today and includes rigid controls of special chemical use and tracking, but also of working conditions. Same goes for all organic cotton that we use, it’s certified with GOTS which is the strictest certification for organic materials. It controls everything from seed to finished product. For us, there’s no other option. It’s the safest option for our mother earth, the people making our clothes and the end user – the kids.

What does your brand do to promote sustainable fashion?
Sustainability is the heart of everything we do, and we try to communicate this in every way we can through all our channels. Sustainability is a complex topic, and sadly today it’s hard to tell what’s greenwashing and what’s actual facts. So we try to tell it like it is, informative and educating – in an easy way. If there’s a certain sustainable fabric we’ve used in a collection we communicate it. We do yearly upcycled collections on leftover fabric, so instead of burning these fabric scraps we give them new life. We also introduced our Treasures concept where we offer Treasures from previous collections, Upcycling collections, press samples and repairs. This is a work in progress, but it’s all part of our work with sustainability and circular production. Our goal is to always try and do better, and to inspire others to become more aware and choose the better option.

What are the 3 most important values for your brand?
Our promise is to always try our best to be the most sustainable option on the market, without compromising on quality or design. We are also gender neutral in the way the children are portrayed, we don’t divide our collections in boys and girls and most importantly we are inclusive and diverse.
