Zurich is a peculiar city whose cultural identity is formed by a mixture of Germanic, Renaissance, Baroque and Post-Modern influences, all of which contribute not only to the local lifestyle, but the city’s fashion trends. Zurich’s unique aesthetic was on display at the stands of Sneakerness, the world’s most important event dedicated to sneaker enthusiasts. Sneakerness arrived in the Swiss city following a first stop in Amsterdam, symbolizing the return of events after more than a year of forced break. Between a talk, a live performance by local rappers and snacks from one of the many food trucks present, local sneakerheads discussed their favorite models while looking for grails on the sellers’ tables, in search of special deals and unique pairs to buy.

Zurich’s sneakerheads were not shy about their preferences: many Nike Dunks were to be found along with Air Jordan 1s. Another model that imposed its presence was the Nike Air Max 1, where collaborations with Parra, Patta, Clot and Atmos dominated the scene. Among the other brands, Asics deserves a special mention for being highly appreciated by the Swiss public, especially for its iconic silhouettes such as the GEL-Kayano 5 360 and the GEL-Lyte 3, which were used to give color to monochromatic outfits featuring unusual vintage pieces.
Other eye-catching grails were models such as the Nike Yeezy 2, a few Air Jordan 1s in their OG iteration, as well as a few extremely rare Swoosh collaborations with COMME des GARÇONS.
Members of Luisaviaroma’s buying and marketing teams were delighted to attend the event, not only to sniff out new trends, but to explore the Sneakerness scene and get to know the Sneakerhead community on a personal level. Thanks to their knowledge of the sector and years of experience, Luisaviaroma’s representatives were able to forge connections with major influencers, such as sneaker guru Aloiz Abram – more commonly known as Gramps – and his photographer grandson Jannik, who currently boast 1 million followers on Instagram.
As we await upcoming editions and future events, the Zurich edition of Sneakerness has given us a newfound, in-depth understanding of Swiss sneaker and streetwear culture, as well as granting us those feelings of conviviality and togetherness which represent the true spirit of the Sneakerhead world.
