Mother’s Day

This Mother’s Day we spoke to mothers and daughters about their special bond. They shared with us what life as a new mother is like, the best advice their mothers have given them, favorite moments with their moms, fantastic gift ideas, advice for other moms, and what they love most about their own mothers.

On being a mother:
What do you hope to pass on to your child?
My ‘just do it’ gene.
Baby fashion?
I’m a sucker for French brands such as Bonpoint, BonTon and Petit Bateau. I like to dress Maximus in neutrals; grey and beige, combined with a white body stocking.
How has being a mom changed your life and has it changed your style?
The biggest and hardest change is definitely that there is very little ‘me time’. My style hasn’t really changed that much, except for my footwear – the high heels have been switched out with my beige/grey X 90 New Balance sneaks.
What’s your favorite way to spend quality time?
With my husband or mom – my two favorite people in the world – along with my (sleeping) son.
Beauty must-haves for Mom?
Eye love from Raaw by Trice. It wakes up tired eyes with its caffeine-rich antioxidants serum.
Mom-proof stylish bags?
Prada’s nylon crossbody bag.
Mom and me outfits- yay or nay?
Yay yay yay! I love color coordinating with my baby boy.
Favorite cartoon or kids movie?
The Lion King.
Favorite memory of being pregnant?
Stroking my big belly and feeling Maximus moving around inside of me – it’s so unreal.
Advice for new moms?
Everything is a phase.

On your own mother:
Best advice you’ve received from your mom?
‘Sleep on it’ – which is a bit hard right now.
Does mother like daughter ring true to you?
Yes. I’m becoming more and more like my mother. It’s a bit scary.
What’s the most memorable moment you’ve shared with your mom?
Probably when she gave me away at my wedding. I chose her, not because I don’t have a father, but because she has played the biggest part in my life and shaped me into the woman I am today, so I wanted to honour her by letting her following me up the aisle.
Favorite mom date?
Weekend getaways to London, Paris or NYC. My mom is the best partner in crime when it comes to shopping.
What’s the ultimate mother’s day gift to give?
I’m hoping my husband gives me a sleep retreat from Maximus (lol), but for my mom I would say anything that ensures some mother daughter quality time.
What are some of the things that you love the most about your mom?
Her calmness, that she never judges me and her ability to fix anything – she is Wonder Woman.
Favorite way to celebrate Mother’s Day? At home or out?
It doesn’t matter if you’re home or going out, as long as you’re together and have put some effort into making it a special day.
What’s your go to gift to get your mom for Mother’s Day?
If I told you it wouldn’t be a surprise.

On her mother:
Best advice you’ve received from your mom?
Always be yourself, no matter what.
Did your mom influence your style?
More than style, she influenced me on being creative, dreaming big and having passions.
Favorite heirloom from your mom?
I used to steal all her handbags. Still do sometimes!
Does like mother like daughter ring true to you?
Yes, in many ways! We both like to have long talks about different things and love to watch the same kind of shows and movies. We are also very Danish.
What’s the most memorable moment you’ve shared with your mom?
I have no specific moment…we share so many! I cherish the fact she is my biggest fan and my rock whenever I need unconditional love and support.
Best beauty tips only a mom could give?
Always take super suuuuper good care of your skin. Moms know best, trust them.
Favorite mom date?
Inviting her to my place over for lunch and watching ´Grace & Frankie’ (our fav TV show).
What’s the ultimate mother’s day gift to give?
Something to make her feel special and a gift that she surely wants but might not need to buy. That’s always nice to receive. Something you just WANT.
What are some of the things that you love the most about your mom?
I love how much she loves getting involved with everything I do. She always takes it to a whole new level. I would hate to have parents who just don’t give a sh*t about my work and passions. Both of them are loving and caring and are always asking and wanting to know what’s going on. They are the cutest most wonderful parents in the world.
Favorite way to celebrate Mother’s Day? At home or out?
BOTH! She will want to go out for sure. We will take her somewhere nice and sunny for lunch and then celebrate with homemade cake at home all five of us. She loves to celebrate.
What’s your go to gift to get your mom for Mother’s Day?
Jewelry is always special. Maybe a nice soft silk printed scarf (she loves scarfs). Something unique, definitely. And flowers! ALWAYS bring her flowers.

On her mother:
Best advice you’ve received from your mom?
Life advice: be nice to everyone, smile and try not to take life too seriously.
Style advice: black will always be a classic.
Did your mom influence your style?
Definitely, my mom’s uniform has always been jeans and a blazer paired with some cool shoes depending on the season. My mom has never let her age define how she dresses, not in an inappropriate way of course, but she has always been one of the cool moms, if that makes sense.
Favorite heirloom from your mom?
I haven’t gotten any yet, but one day I hope to inherit some of her jewelry. My mom has the most amazing jewelry.
Does “like mother like daughter” ring true to you?
100%. Both my mom and I have a thing for fashion and I really have her to thank for introducing that whole world to me. Besides that, our personalities are really similar, very calm but stubborn.
What’s the most memorable moment you’ve shared with your mom?
We’ve had so many. I see my mom almost every day but it always brings warmth to my heart when I think about all the different parts of the world we’ve experienced together.
Best beauty tips only a mom could give?
Less is more.
Favorite mom date?
Strolling around Copenhagen looking at stores and ending it with a cozy lunch at one of her favorite cafes, a tiny French place right next to my apartment.
What’s the ultimate mother’s day gift to give?
An experience, whether it’s a spa trip, a weekend getaway, going to the museum, having lunch, whatever. Just something you can enjoy together and probably remember a little longer.
What are some of the things that you love the most about your mom?
Her way of looking at life. She always has a positive attitude towards almost everything. What I love the most is the fact that she has a heart too big for her body. I have never met anyone with more love in her bones than she has.
Favorite way to celebrate Mother’s Day? At home or out?
Out, my mom loves to go out for dinner.
What’s your go to gift to get your mom for Mother’s Day?
I’m not exactly sure yet, but one thing I do know is I’ll definitely buy her some beautiful flowers and just spend the day however she wishes to.
