Celebrating Qixi Festival with Xiayan, Laurence Fortin-Côté, & Meng Mao

Get to know talents Xiayan, Laurence Fortin-Côté, and Meng Mao as they speak about love, fashion and celebrating the Qixi Festival.

The Qixi Festival, also known as Chinese Valentine’s Day, is a Chinese festival that has been celebrated for thousands of years and is now celebrated by many other countries like Japan, Korea, Singapore, and Malaysia. The festival comes from the mythological tale of the cowherder and weaver girl which is an ancient Chinese love story that dates back to over 2000 years. This year we’ve decided to reach out to talents Xiayan, Laurence Fortin-Côté, and Meng Mao to share their thoughts on love, fashion and how they will celebrate the Qixi festival this year.

What does love mean to you?

Love is broad, it can be love for family, love for friends, love for a partner and love for career. Love is an intense, positive emotion that brings hope. Love is mutual, there is giving and there is gain. Love needs to be well-matched and make progress together.

What is your love language?

Trust him and respond to him when he needs it.

How is the Qixi Festival traditionally celebrated?

If one has a partner, they just eat together and spend the day in a simple way.

How will you celebrate the Qixi Festival?

We will spend this Qixi on the seaside of Greece, I’m looking forward to it very much. This is also my first official holiday of this year. Because usually we are both very busy with work, and we have never seen each other continuously for every day of a week , so this holiday in Greece is a new experience.

What is your go-to look for a first date?

For the first date, I usually choose a long dress that is fitted and simple which can highlight the figure but not show too much skin.

What trends are you loving right now?

Recently ,I like the simple waistless racer vest, paired with a pair of looser jeans or cargo pants to create a cool and comfortable summer look.

What does love mean to you?

Being able to show your true self to somebody and trust that they will do the same in return. For me, love means patience, but passion at the same time. It’s about having someone by your side to share the good and harder times and support each other no matter what.

What is your love language?

I tend to express my love through writing. There’s nothing like a handwritten note to tell someone how you feel towards them!

How will you celebrate the Qixi Festival?

We love any excuse to spend special time together and plan something romantic. This year will probably call for a picnic dinner date in the park, followed by a nice long walk by the water while watching the sunset!

What is your go-to look for a first date?

I would go for something comfortable, but unique at the same time. Something that shows my personality while giving me confidence! Personally, my go-to is a pair of vintage jeans, a crisp white T-shirt and whichever jacket I am loving at that moment! I’ve never been one to wear heels so for shoes, I tend to go for a pair of leather loafers. Understated and sophisticated!

What trends are you loving right now?

When it comes to summer trends, I think the simpler the better! I always gravitate around classics; whites head-to-toe with nautical touches like a striped sweater and some loafers. I also love basket bags in all sizes and shapes — I think they make for the perfect understated summer accessory!
