I WAS A SARI x Oxfam at LVRSustainable - 1

I was a Sari, in collaboration with Oxfam is bringing an exclusive collection of kimonos and mules made from saris to LVRSustainable. Oxfam seeks to fight injustice and poverty by partnering with organizations to help those affected to thrive. Women form the majority of the population living in poverty, and gender discrimination and inequality is one of the driving factors behind this. Giving women the opportunity to exercise their fundamental human rights is the best way to fight this injustice and to help lift them from poverty.

I was a Sari produces beautiful, eco-ethical fashion that simultaneously empowers women. The brand was founded by Stefano Funari, with the concept of taking pre-loved Indian saris and upcycling them to create new designs. At the core of the brand’s ethos is their dedication to empowering underprivileged women in Mumbai. I was a Sari, allows these women the opportunity to create a product, master a skill, gain financial independence and respect, all while combining it with something that is deeply meaningful to them in Indian culture: the Sari.

The collection designed exclusively for LVRSustainable by I was a Sari, features kimonos and mules upcycled from Indian saris. The hand-embroidered kimonos are made of colorful sari prints, and feature a collar in another contrasting sari print. The mules are elegant slip-ons that are covered in a sari, and then accentuated with hand-embroidery and beading. Upcycled materials are used to create one of a kind and unique fashion pieces that breathe a new life.
