Origin of Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day is a celebration born to honor mothers, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. It is celebrated on different days throughout the world, usually in the months of March or May.
It was first celebrated in 1907 when Anna Jarvis campaigned to make it an official holiday after her mother passed away. Her mother had been a peace activist during the American Civil War and Jarvis wanted to honor her setting aside a day to appreciate all mothers because she believed a mother is “the person who has done more for you than anyone in the world”.
