As much as we hate to admit it, gone are the days of warm weather and sand between your toes. The days of red Rudolph noses, cracked dry skin, and bitterly cold temperatures are quickly approaching, but it’s not all bad news. The key to avoiding flaky, chapped, red, and irritated skin is to keep your moisture levels sky high. Get a head start on your winter skincare routine to ensure you stay radiant from head to toe. Make a few easy swaps in your usual beauty routine and you’ll be good to glow.

Winter is Coming - BEAUTY_01

USE A CREAM CLEANSER

Swapping out your foaming cleanser for a creamy one will help smoothen the transition from warm and moist to cold and dry weather. Stronger gel or foaming cleansers can strip your skin of natural oils, which is a big no-no in the winter since your skin is already lacking moisture. Cream cleansers tend to be gentler on the skin and provide that extra layer of moisture your skin craves in the winter months.

INCORPORATE VITAMIN C

Make sure your skin care routine contains Vitamin C somewhere. It is essential in the production of collagen, which is the protein that gives skin its elasticity. Facilitating collagen production will delay fine lines and wrinkle formation. Vitamin C also helps reduce age and sun spots, as well as the effects of pollution on your skin. It’s safe to say Vitamin C is a must when it comes to your winter beauty routine.

MOISTURIZING MASKS ARE A MUST

Sometimes things can go wrong even if you do everything right. In those instances where you need a little pick me up or extra TLC for your skin, opt for a mask. Not only are masks a great way to practice self-care, but they also renew, replenish, and revive your skin. Different masks target different complexion concerns, but for the winter months, we suggest choosing one that intensely moisturizes and hydrates as well as those that include collagen-boosting ingredients such as glycolic and salicylic acid.

SPLURGE ON ANTIOXIDANT SERUM

If antioxidants aren’t already part of your daily beauty routine, now is the time to incorporate them. Antioxidants benefit you in so many ways – namely protecting from free radicals and keeping the skin looking energized and youthful. An easy way to introduce these into your routine is to invest in an antioxidant-rich serum. You can use these morning or night (or both!) and give your skin that extra boost it needs in the cold weather.

TAKE YOUR FRAGRANCE UP A NOTCH

Your skincare routine isn’t the only thing that requires some tweaks in the winter – don’t forget to swap out your fragrance too. Scents don’t evaporate as easily in the winter when the air is dry, so a spritz of perfume won’t be as noticeable or last all day as it would in the summer. Combat the dry weather by taking it up a notch with stronger floral and citrus scents that are in it for the long haul.
