Get to know the designer behind the alluring, feminine footwear label.

Gianvito Rossi - 6

Shoe designer Gianvito Rossi makes quality shoes that transcend the trends of time. As the son of the renowned shoe designer Sergio Rossi, Gianvito has grown up in the business allowing him to develop a clean design philosophy and aesthetic. After gaining experience working for his father, he debuted his eponymous label in 2006. His shoes are designed to lengthen legs and to minimize foot pain. The whole design process requires 60 steps from the selection of materials to the made by hand process. The result: alluring, feminine shoes with enduring quality that will last for years.

Every piece of art and every architectural building, every elegant woman, leave a trace in my subconscious which later take on a new form as I assemble in my studio.

As the son of Sergio Rossi, you have grown up around luxury fashion. Can you tell us your first fashion memory?
My first fashion memory was my father bringing heels and sketches at home to finish his work.

Did you always know you wanted to do shoes as well, or was it more of an evolution? Can you tell us more about your steps to becoming a designer?
I have been stimulated to be a designer since I was very young. I have always assisted my father with the variety of lines and forms, noticed particular details like the textures of leather and travelling with an open mind.

Tell us about the FW17 collection. What is the inspiration behind the collection?
Japan is a world of sophisticated cuts and beautiful textures and FW 17 is my tribute to the Japanese sense of beauty.

What do you think about all of the collaborations going on in high fashion right now?
I am all for a collaboration that is aimed to a relaunch a brand or for a special production that goes beyond the identity of the brand. I think it’s great. I’m still excited about the creative possibilities I have for my own collection.

What are your favorite shoe trends for FW17?
I love the come-back of the stiletto heel and pointed toes because I really feel that those are the lines and volumes that better express the concept of femininity.

If a woman had to just buy one essential shoe for the FW17 season, what would it be and why?
The Levy tabasco red leather pointed bootie is my favorite style for the FW 17 at this moment.
