LIÉ STUDIO is the Danish jewelry brand founded by twin sisters Amalie and Cecilie Moosgaard in 2021. Their mission? To create beautiful, everyday jewelry staples to elevate the style of the modern woman. The result is a collection of signature Scandi style, minimalistic jewelry in gold and silver that has become a cult favorite. On the cusp of venturing into leather products, they sat down to chat to LUISAVIAROMA about their journey so far and what inspires them.
What drew you both to the world of jewelry design, which led to the creation of Lié Studio? Could you share the genesis of the brand, including the moment or idea that sparked its inception?
Our experience of several years in the fashion industry as models has involved collaborating with a wide range of talented designers and individuals to bring their creative visions to life. As more and more people started following us, our style, and our lives, a desire emerged within us to create something of our own – something that was 100% us, something we loved, and reflected our personal style.
LIÉ STUDIO was thus born in November 2021 with the goal of creating modern yet timeless jewelry that can seamlessly become part of one’s daily uniform and be worn for any occasion, over and over again. We wanted to create something that could easily blend into any wardrobe and offer pieces that can also be worn by non-jewelry persons, just like us initially.
Inspiration often plays a significant role in the creative process. Could you share some key sources of inspiration for Lié Studio’s latest collection?
With our latest collection, consisting of a selection of bangles, we wanted to create a true classic. The bangle drop is configured as an ensemble with a bolder statement look, embracing chunky silhouettes. Still, these pieces effortlessly transition from day to night, making them the perfect companions for any occasion. To us, it’s important that whatever we create is timeless and something that can be worn over and over again which goes across all our coll. In general, we like to get inspired during our travels and by exploring marketplaces, auctions, and observing people on the streets. However, the biggest source of inspiration is the women whom we surround ourselves with, their lives as well as our own.
How do you both navigate the collaborative process as sisters and founders, and what strengths do each of you bring to the table in shaping Lié Studio’s aesthetic?
We’ve learned to balance work and private life throughout our many years of working together in this industry, meaning that we’ve had to learn how to communicate, work together, and help each other in a work setting since we were 16. Navigating the collaborative process as both sisters and business founders is intense at times, but we don’t think we would be where we are today if we didn’t have each other as sparring partners. In our roles as creative directors, we collaborate with a team of talented designers to produce four collections annually, following the seasonal schedule. Our responsibility is vital in making sure that our vision is being executed and ensuring that our designs consistently embody the essence of LIÉ: timelessness and longevity. Beyond that, Amalie has more of the overall responsibility in our design and product teams, while Cecilie oversees more of the administrative departments and matters, making sure that the business is running smoothly.
Jewelry often holds personal significance for both the creator and the wearer. Do you have a personal favorite in the collection presented at LuisaViaRoma? What are your favorite ways to style them?
It’s always tough picking favorites, but some of our jewelry pieces hold more personal significance because they remind us of someone or something. For instance, the Laura Necklace was the first thing we designed when we started LIÉ STUDIO. It’s named after one of our best friends, and we knew exactly how we wanted it to look and feel. It turned out perfectly and has been a favorite of ours since the beginning, and continues to be so. Additionally, we are currently both obsessed with our newly launched bangle drop, which includes the Emma and Amanda Bracelets. We believe they truly embody the identity of LIÉ and are true staples and classics that you can keep coming back to. We love styling them with button-up shirts, over the arm cuffs.
Attention to detail is a hallmark of craftsmanship. What are some of the unique techniques employed in the creation of Lie Studio’s jewelry pieces, and how do these details contribute to the overall narrative?
Whenever we create new designs and styles, it is of utmost importance to us that each piece stays true to the core DNA of LIÉ, embodying the creation of classic, timeless, and high-quality pieces. We design our styles to be wearable for any occasion, always guided by our own taste. If there is something we don’t like, we simply won’t make it. This approach may seem a bit narcissistic, but we know it works and is a key reason why LIÉ remains trustworthy to our customers, which is the absolutely most important thing for us.
