Earth Day Dialogues: Inspiring Change with LVRSustainable’s Changemaking Brands

We sat down with three LVRSustainable brands making waves in material innovation and conscious practices. Read on to see what these changemakers have to say about shaping a better future for fashion.

Our planet’s beauty is undeniable, but so is its fragility. For Earth Day 2024, let’s unite to reflect on the challenges affecting our planet’s delicate balance, and celebrate the changemakers working to disrupt the status quo, bringing positive change to the fashion industry. This year’s global theme, “Planet vs. Plastics,” compels us to confront the urgent threat plastic pollution poses to human and environmental wellbeing. The fashion industry, too, must confront its role in perpetuating plastic use. From synthetic fabrics like polyester and nylon, which dominate the landscape, to the very packaging that graces your doorstep, plastic’s influence is undeniable. Yet, within this challenge lies an opportunity for transformative change. While eliminating plastic entirely may be a long-term goal, we can take immediate steps by prioritizing material awareness, sourcing responsibly and transparently, advocating for policy changes, and investing in innovative, plastic-free alternatives.

The LVRSustainable selection showcases a growing number of brands committed to responsible sourcing and material selection, showing what is possible and ushering in hope for the future of a more conscious fashion industry. As stewards of our planet, we must embrace this challenge and strive to sustain a future for all. In honor of Earth Day, we sat down with three LVRSustainable brands challenging the status quo, addressing material sourcing and transparency to talk all things conscious fashion, the importance of materials, and investing in a responsible wardrobe. See what they had to say about their contributions to the industry and get to know the changemakers pushing for the difference.

Loulou Studio

Loulou Studio is a womenswear brand rooted in the belief that versatile mix-and-match pieces are the very essence of conscious fashion. It has earned its reputation as an industry changemaker exemplifying the possibilities of conscious materials in operations with its commitment to eliminating plastic from all packaging and implementing an innovative use of aesthetic material alternatives while showcasing that responsible choices can be both stylish and environmentally considerate. With a meticulous focus on sourcing natural fabrics with ecological certifications from Europe or Mongolia, Loulou Studio prioritizes material integrity while upholding environmental stewardship. Setting a benchmark for sustainability in fashion, Loulou Studio shows us what is possible when brands shift their mindset toward conscious operations and establish a new way of doing. We sat down with Creative Director Chloé Harrouche to hear more about what she has to say on the importance of materials in her collections.

Going beyond seasonal trends, Loulou Studio from its inception has been about building pieces that are timeless and infinitely wearable.

Material sourcing is at the heart of Loulou Studio DNA. Clean, structural lines sublimed with textural fabrics and soothing color palettes. There is also a desire to select natural fabrics for their breathable quality and material longevity. The soft touch of silk twill, the lightness of cashmere, the textural slub of linen. By prioritizing natural fabrics sourced from Europe, we not only ensure the highest quality for our garments, pieces that will keep for a long time but also minimize our environmental footprint.

Moreover, we also work with materials and production partners that have secured ecological certifications: Oeko-Tex and GRS for certain knits, Responsible Wool Standard, Leather Working Group, GOTS and Organic 100 for jersey and denim. By investing in sustainable sourcing practices, we not only support local economies but also reduce the carbon footprint associated with our supply chain, thus advancing our environmental goals.
