Inspired by the energy of Miami, the collection features sophisticated retro and modern eyewear for the contemporary man. The SS21 collection is the third collaboration between the iconic footballer and style icon with the renowned eyewear company, Safilo. This SS21 collection is inspired by Miami – what are some of your favourite things about the city?
Miami has the most incredible energy and people and was always going to be the home for my football club, which we have named Inter Miami CF. Miami is a place where the people have a true passion for the joy of life. It is a city that has a vibrant art and culture scene and it’s these characteristics that have influenced the design of this season’s eyewear.
The design is also influenced by timeless icons and style pioneers – what does that mean to you?
It is really important to me that the range of DB Eyewear has a style for everyone and every occasion. Our collection offers retro inspired and timeless designs combined with a sharp focus on detail and functionality, exquisite craftsmanship and use of the highest quality materials.
Talk us through this SS21 collection and some of your favourite pieces…
I love the opticals in this collection, particularly 7050 and 7055 – both offer a vintage feel and look sophisticated and elegant.
In terms of sunglasses, I love the 7041 sunglasses – they have a retro yet contemporary feel and are truly classic. The 7048 style is perfect for me to wear while out riding my motorbike – the lightweight metal means they fit perfectly under a helmet and the photochromic lenses transition from clear to dark meaning my vision is always clear.
The geometric shape of the 7046/s make for a bold look which I love.
What design features stand out about this collection?
Of course the Talisman design makes the collection distinctive. It has become an iconic detail in DB Eyewear. The superior lenses also make them stand apart and means they are suitable for everyone and all of their adventures. We have been more expressive in this collection and have definitely been more playful in our approach to materials and shapes this season.
This is your third collection with Safilo – what is so important about this partnership?
The partnership I have with Safilo around DB Eyewear is so important for me and is a great collaboration. It allows me to channel my passion for style and design and create something beautiful to be enjoyed. The fact that each collection focuses on a different city’s influence also enhances the eyewear as a route for escapism, which I think we all need right now.
How has the experience of creating your third collection for DB Eyewear been?
Creating this most recent collection has been a slightly different experience and we’ve had to adapt some parts of the process to the times we find ourselves in. But luckily, we have been able to continue working and collaborating with amazing creators and producers and actually there have been some fun adjustments. This industry is resilient and I’ve enjoyed working in new ways.
